"Spilder" listed below is a typo by the present day data entry person who misread the handwriting on the document.  It appears from the scanned image of the WI land patent that the government employee spelled Spilde as "Spildee" just as it sounds since John was not able to read/write English.

My sister Jodi Spilde sent the following email today:

Hey, I found some info. about Carrie Spilde from typing obituaries at work. Not sure if you have all this or not. This is from the Nov. 2, 1905 issue of the Brookings Register.

Carrie Spilde
Born - America
Died - Oct. 1905 - Brookings, SD
Parents - Jensen (last name, I assume?)
Married John O. Spilde 8 July 1859

Below are clips of emails from a contact in Lodi, WI.

At the Lodi Public Library the cemetery records for Mt. Pleasant Cemetery,
(the public cemetery in Lodi) show burial sites for Kenneth Glimme 1900-1980
and Anna Glimme 1910-

AND:

I found the Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery known as Smokey Hollow Cemetery,
(even though the sign over the cemetery says Arlington).  There are quite a
few Spildes out there.  I am forwarding the email of a local historian who
gave me directions to this cemetery.  I thought the directions would come in
handy for you if you take a trip to this area.  For a traveler, it's
actually an easily accessible cemetery...it's within 3 miles of interstate
90/94 at the Lodi exit.

This is not a complete listing of the names at Smokey Hollow cemetery, but I
thought you might at least like to have my partial listing.  I'll try to get
back out there this week.  There are about three more names I need to copy
down.  Unfortunately, winter has returned to this area and I went out to the
cemetery rather unprepared:

Lars H. Spilde  1854 - 1942
Anna D. Spilde  1856-1924
Edna L. Spilde  1883 - 1974

Lawrence A. Spilde 1895-1983
Ora Spilde  PFC US Army WWII   1915-1986
(Lawrence and Ora have the same headstone so I think they might be brothers)

Hans Spilde b. 9/15/1813  d. 7/16/1893
Anna Spilde b. 1/6/1823  d. 3/22/1914

George Spilde 1879-1899
Hans Spilde  1850-1902

There is a headstone out there that had Voss Norway inscribed on it.  That
is one I still need to get details on.   I left a message with the local
Lutheran church to see if they knew who had the actual cemetery records.
Hopefully they will return my call this week.

I also received an email from Judy Spilde of MT who sent a photocopy of an article listing all the Spilde's that attended the Spilde gathering in Decorah, IA in 1995.  She also included another family history article that gave info on an Anna Palsd. Spilde.  She is an ancestor of the Spilde's in IA so I can eliminate that Anna Spilde as a possibility for my great great grandmother.

Newspaper article is scanned here.

Best possibility at this point is that Hans Hansson and Anna Vibaas had a daughter Anna, who would be my great great grandmother.  Second most likely possibility is Anna Olavsd. Spildo born 1852 in Norway and emigrated on her own to America in 1871.  I would be curious as to how John O. Spilde would be related to any of the above.

Volunteer lookup for McHenry Co., IL did not find any Spilde/Spildo listed in the 1860 or 1870 census listings.
