I'm in Wisconsin! My girlfriend, Michelle is stationed at Ft. Mc Coy for 2 weeks of army reserve training. I went to visit and head down to the Lodi area for some family history research. Ft Mc Coy is about a 5 hr drive plus stops. Lodi is another hour plus.
I stopped off in Harmony, MN to research some previous information on a couple of Spilde sister's that immigrated there along with their mother. Their first names match my great great grandma Anna Spilde's sister's. Ragnhild and Elisabeth Spilde. Ragnhild was married to a Thompson. I did find a few Thompson graves, but nothing with a matching first name. I am curious if Anna's mother might be buried somewhere in the area, but I don't have much to go on.
The local Lutheran church is Greenfield Lutheran Church - Ph: 886-3272. Parsonage is 886-2341. Harmony Tourist Info is: 886-2469.

My day started with driving down to Poynette, WI where Amund settled in 1887 after his 2nd emigration. I searched a couple of local cemeteries on the way into town before locating the local public library. They really didn't have any information, but suggested the Historical Society next door (which was closed).
The HS museum is open 10am-2pm Sat and 1pm-3pm Wed or by appt. (call 635-2662, 635-2970, 635-2600, or 635-2336).
I stopped across the street at Poynette Press, where a couple ladies and a cat were passing the time on a morning where no one should be inside. I was looking through the old newspapers around Feb 4, 1910 for Amund's obituary and Oct 5, 1891 for marrying Inger. No luck.
I asked about cemeteries in the area, and was lucky enough to get a map of the county that designated where the cemeteries were located. I spent the afternoon searching.
I had pretty much given up, deciding to go to De Forest in the next county and resume searching from there. I happened to pass the corner to the last cemetery in the area. Feeling, I couldn't pass it up, I turned around and headed several miles out of my way.
Lucky for me I went. As soon as I set foot in the cemetery, there it was! Amund's headstone!! He's buried with his son Knud (1880 - 1900) and his 3rd wife Inger (1870 - 1963) along with a Eddie A Glimme (4/27/1908 - 7/2/1974) who I'm guessing was their son.
Cemetery photos are located here.
Across the street was Gilbertson's Store "Since 1894". I had to go in - it looks as if it hasn't changed much in the past century! The guy behind the counter said the original church across the street was a brick building that burned in the mid 1950's. The existing church has a stone that says it was constructed in 1957. The church may not be the same, but I'd guess my great great grandfather had visited the same store back when he was alive.

Late afternoon - I traveled to Madison Wis, and attempted to find the Memorial Library on the university campus downtown. There I found the Stamtavle over familien Glimme. Manuscript and photocopied. A scanned copy can be obtained here. Be forewarned!!! It's over 37MB in size and will take some time to download.
More info to come....
